One month latergram. Took me this long to accept t One month latergram. Took me this long to accept that I’m not still in Fiji.

In all seriousness, this was one of my top three favorite trips. It wasn’t an easy one though. Two weeks prior, I suddenly found myself faced with my biggest fear - being abandoned without warning.

This wasn’t the first time someone has ruthlessly cut me off. It’s happened in work, romantic relationships, and friendships. And as an empath, it’s incredibly hard to not blame myself for not anticipating people’s actions. For missing obvious warning signs.

But I also know that one of my biggest weaknesses is my biggest strength. I lead with trust, kindness, and loyalty. And I often wear rose-color glasses. I expect others to act like how I would act. In my “naivety”, I find myself ripped apart again.

This is not a victim post though. Actually it’s an F them post. After years of building resilience, I’ve learned that I heal the most when I pity the other person.

I deserve someone who is secure enough to be honest with themselves, someone who is brave enough to be truthful and have uncomfortable conversions with people they care about, someone who is introspective enough to accept responsibility and grow.

The people from my past lack these, and I pity them. How insecure, unhappy, and cowardly they must be to hurt people they care so much about. How empty they must feel in their meaningless quest to fill the void in themselves - whether that is the pursuit of acceptance, power, or wealth…

In Fiji, I saw the contrast of the Fijian approach to life versus the world I live in. I was bitter at times and struggled with my own fears about losing time, being able to have kids, being alone, and trusting again. But this was the trip I needed.

I was surrounded by a warm and humble culture, where people are content with taking each day at a time, and a place that emphasizes community and respect.

Thank you for the perspective and reminder that I’m doing my best. One day at a time.
