Sushi Suzuki, Tokyo 鮨 鈴木 – Lunch Nigiri Omakase Review

It took me three trips to Japan to finally experience a local sushi omakase. On my last visit to Tokyo, I traveled during the New Year holiday—when the fish market and many restaurants were closed. Tokyo is already notorious for being difficult to book at top spots, and the holiday closures made it even trickier.

After hours of research and booking attempts, I landed on Sushi Suzuki in Ginza. It had strong local ratings (Tablelog 2025 Bronze) and was easy to book online through a reputable third-party site.

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch omakase there. I discovered new favorites, including incredibly sweet hamaguri and akagai clams, along with delightfully salty aji (horse mackerel) and kohada (gizzard shad). The meal included 15 pieces of sushi, plus miso soup and tamago.

Some notes: very little English is spoken, but chef Suzuki-san was good-natured and patient. During my seating, all nine diners were English speakers, and he handled it well. Also, the omakase lunch is prepaid in full online at booking (¥29,282), and any drinks or extras are cash only at the restaurant. I would happily revisit again. I am curious about the dinner omakase, which is double the price of lunch.
